The Dade Green Coalition, a public private partnership of 30 plus public/private/academic groups involving the County, Cities, Universities, companies Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida, companies and not-for-profits. The Coalition prepares design guidelines for new and rebuilt buildings and building commissioning, a new green builder program, a green building awards program, and education programs on sustainability for the general public, public schools, and the design professionals. Other projects include indoor air quality standards, energy efficiency in building design, green materials research (recyclable and with recycled content). They also organized the first South Florida Sustainable Building Conference that brought together government, academic, and private sectors with 56 speakers on five tracks of sustainablity and the environment. Conferees wrote a Green Action Agenda "Where we go from here" which is moving forward. They produced a 10 minute video for the Coalition, illustrating its goals and Miami's historic examples of sustainable architecture.

Eco-$mart Homes and Buildings Program

Created by, and operated under license from the non-profit Florida House Institute for Sustainable Development, the Eco-$mart Homes and Buildings program was designed to bridge the gap between understanding and applying sustainable development principles. The program acts as a distribution source for Florida House Institute approved construction materials, and offers free design consultations for home owners, building owners, architects, developers and contractors. Contacts are provided, both locally and nationally for special, energy efficient mortgages that allow buyers to qualify for more home or building. Contractors and developers are assisted in taking advantage of the free public relations and marketing power provided by programs such as EPA Energy Star, SunBuilt and Engineered for Life. Regional Eco-$mart Program offices also put on free seminars to educate the public and the trades on the wisdom and availability of sustainable approaches to construction.

The Envirosense Consortium is a nonprofit association that promotes a proactive "Total Systems Approach" to indoor environmental quality issues, concentrating on building systems, product systems and maintenance systems. The Florida Design Initiative serves as a catalyst for promoting best practices in community and facility planning, design and usage. Two websites, free electronic subscription services, conferences and hands-on workshops communicate innovative and tested strategies to private and public sector audiences. Profiles of leading edge tools, resources, and experiences foster thought, dialogue, and action. The two websites produced by the Florida Design Initiative (and hosted at FAMU) are the Florida Sustainable Communities Center and EDesign.

The mission of the Florida House Foundation, Inc. (FHF) is to facilitate change for a sustainable future. As a center for adaptive learning it provides "leadership through example" by developing demonstration projects which illustrate the principles of resource efficiency and sustainability (taking social and environmental goals and making them into economic generators). FHF produces educational media, provides educational forums, serves as an economic development incubator and networks with other institutions worldwide. As an adaptive learning center they focus on a regional area corresponding to the bioregional area contained by the Manatee and Peace River watersheds including Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties.

Cool Communities is a nonprofit action-oriented advocacy program aimed at improving air and water quality and conserving energy by advocating urban heat island mitigation using sustainable cost-effective strategies for development, construction and existing structure retro-fitting. Specifically they promote the use of lighter, reflective (high albedo) roofing and paving materials in combination with strategically planted shade trees.

The Sustainable Facilities and Infrastructure Program at Georgia Tech is a cross-disciplinary program that focuses on improving the sustainability of the built environment via basic and applied research, technical assistance, public outreach, and education. Present initiatives include work in affordable housing, decision making, metrics of sustainability for the built environment, cost modeling, sustainable materials, and a seven-part continuing education certificate series in Sustainable Facilities and Infrastructure. SFI also collaborates with Georgia Tech's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and College of Architecture with research and courses on sustainable design, green building, and environmentally conscious design and construction.

An active component of this department's Environmental Initiative is to promote sustainable building practices. This is accomplished in part through their "Green Team," a network of environmentally-conscientous Habitat volunteers who believe that a simple, decent, affordable home means a home with low energy costs, and one that is resource-efficient and healthy for its occupants. HFHI's Environmental Initiative Statement includes to "promote goodstewardship of natural resources in the elimination of substandardshelter, and to raise awareness of the impact of human habitation onGod's creation." The information and techniques promoted through the Environmental Initiative assist affiliates in building houses that arenot only simple, decent and affordable to low-income families, but also are as resource-efficient as possible to build and maintain  without diverting funds from building other houses.

Miami-Dade Environmental Advisory Task Force (EATF) conducts oversight on environmental issues involving the county's operations on its land and buildings. Park Pride is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of Atlanta's parks and green spaces through citizen involvement. Each year Park Pride contributes over 10,000 volunteer hours to help preserve 3,000 acres of parkland. They transform weeds and neglect into blooming cityscapes. Park Pride has programs and events for schools, children, corporations, small businesses, community organizations and people like you.
