homeWORD, a supporting corporation of Women's Opportunity & Resource Development, develops affordable housing and asset building stategies. homeWord has constructed two straw bale houses for sale to low income families and a twelve unit apartment building. These projects include a number of sustainable features: earth-tube ventilation, frost-protected shallow foundations with fly-ash concrete, smaller dimensioned timber construction, and other recycled and salvaged materials.
